(Editor’s Note: How did I ever sleep on this? Seriously….For shame….)
I consider myself a student of Pop Culture. I mean, to a certain extent, that’s what my degree was in. And, as a student of pop culture, I know so much about things that I never have actually watched. Whether it is the plot line to Morman Vampire stories or the power that Justin Bieber wields – I feel up to date.
So how did I miss Glee?
Of course, I didn’t miss Glee. I knew what it was. I was aware but I never watched it – despite my love for campy musicals and Jane Lynch. But I never watched it. Boy, have I missed out.
The show is Pop Culture personified. The show is allusion – to great music, great performances, and has everything that shows are missing. It’s Family Friendly but doesn’t have kids gloves. The High School students have sex. With multiple partners. Their are gays and lesbians. There is divorce, fighting, bullying – it doesn’t hold back (at least for a television show). Yet, it’s heart felt and feel good. You can’t help but smile watching it. I know, I know – I’ve missed out for the last year. Still – it’s never too late.
My favorite character is easily Brittany. Check out the interview with Heather Morris here:
And my favorite One-Liners of Brittany:
I am in love with Alessandra Torresani.
There’s really nothing more to write than that.
But….if you want me to write more, I can talk about how this non-Battlestar Galactica watching guy has really taken to the show Caprica. The episodes are compelling and interesting. The plot lines seem immense – you’re not sure where they could go and yet they are buttoned up as well. The characters are three-dimensional – you feel their emotions, you seem things simmering underneath the surface. These are things that one does not usually find in television programming. Add in the captivating Torresani, whom I have slowly fallen in love with thanks to her beautiful visage being plastered on Subways all around the city, and the Caprica universe has found a new fan.
One of the perks of going to conferences is that you always end up with lots of stuff. Sometimes it’s random stuff – stickers, pamphlets, books, USB drives – other times, it’s awesome things like Creative Suite 4, alcohol, and shoes (not that I’m biased with the last one…). The problem is, when you start going to a bunch of these things, you often end up with duplicate things when only one is needed.
So that’s why I’m giving away an X-Shot. I love the X-Shot. It’s such a simple but awesome tool – helping you take some pretty cool pictures and, if in a pinch, defending yourself from monsters (aka: it seems like it would be an effective weapon). I’ve used the X-shot to take some fun pictures, get new angels on the same ol’ standby pix, and just try different things.
If you don’t believe, you should try it. How? Well – one lucky winner will get the extra X-shot that I received for being a speaker at Izeafest. X-Shot was a sponsor of Izeafest – along with a certain shoe company – and their people are great. They’re always active and on the ground supporting the blogger community – so I figured I’ll help them out by trying to spread the word. Comment below for your chance to win. Contest ends Friday and 11:59pm Mountain Time.
I didn’t forget about the giveaway: Grace won based on a random number generator from Random.org. Expect an email, miss! I’m actually planning on doing another one with some of the swag I got at conferences and a few books that I recently have read and are done with. I’m trying to be more of a minimalist and might as well reuse/recycle some of these things that I happen across.
As I was walking home today, I was bouncing around to Peter Bjorn and John’s “Writer’s Block” album. It was a cool fall day and I was totally enveloped in the music. As I walked into my house, I took my headphones out and my world got quiet. I looked at my iPhone and headphones and smiled…

In May, I received a few pairs of headphones from Skullcandy as a gift. I’ve used them every day since and they look just as new as they do in the picture above – which was taken right after I opened the package. I absolutely love these things so much so, that I was visibly saddened when I realized I left these at work over my long weekend trip to Izeafest. As someone who has a deep and profound love of music and currently a pedestrian, a good pair of headphones are mana from the gods. I can’t imagine living without my Skullcandy earbuds.
Giveaway: Of the things I did receive from Skullcandy, I do not use the Double Agent pair. I opened the package and tried them out and, while they had great sound quality, the fact that the music was run off an SD card and couldn’t be hooked up to your iPhone wasn’t for me. So here’s the deal – if you comment on my blog, I’ll pick a winner at random and send the Double Agents (My pair is lime green) to you. Consider it a gift to my loyal readers.
The other day, I received a nice (free) package from Skullcandy – a couple pairs of earbuds and the Double Agent. While I haven’t busted out the Double Agent yet – I am already in love with the Ear Buds. The first and foremost reason is in the picture below:
The new ear buds are on the left. My old ones (by Sony) are on the right. They both made a similar journey. Brand new – they went to the gym with me and the Sony ones didn’t survive without getting tangled. The Skullcandy ones are basically like new. Add in the awesome design aspects, the fact that they are almost completely noise cancellation – Skullcandy is the way to go. Now that I have two ear buds and the Double Agents – I am pretty much set at home, at work, and at the gym! Very excited – it’s going to make me go out and buy some new music!
Make sure to check out Skullcandy TV as well!
The Queen wrote about the Eye-Fi before – and I totally was intrigued. After reading this, I definitely want one…
