Daylight Savings starts my favorite time of year. More sun. More fun. Just makes you want to party all the time…
(Totally continuing the “I’m too busy to post something real” blog posts – thank you embedded video!)
From the Daily Show with Jon Stewart:
My roommate Kezza underwent surgery last week to remove a bunion from her foot. I pretty much hate feet – so the pictures and videos on her blog make me feel nauseous. Still – it’s kind of a big deal here at 858 since she is somewhat limited in the things that she can do.
On Sunday, she ventured out of the apartment for the first time ever – visiting our friend Vanessa of VRSdesign out in Broomfield. Under surgically induced house arrest, it was a big step in Kezza’s recovery. After Vanessa’s, we were feeling somewhat adventurous so we decided to make a trip to Target. I captured some of the adventure on video and thought I would share it with the world:
Okay – perhaps the Wicked Witch theme was a bit meladramatic, but I did find myself using my classic somewhat derogatory, yet loving “princess” tone (a la Han Solo and Princess Leia – although with more of the Luke/Leia Brother/Sister vibe) on her while we were checking out. That one is usually reserved for only those I care about a lot – so Kezza, you have that going for you – which is nice.
I didn’t really watch the Super Bowl. I just didn’t care this year. Was this poor sportsmanship because my team didn’t make it? Not really – I just didn’t care about football all year. Like at all. I would spend my Sundays at @TheCupBoulder, reading, or going to the movies. I don’t think I feel like I missed anything special at all these last 5 months or so.
But I do love the commercials. It’s the one time of the year that the commercials are actually paid attention to – and for the most part – the creativity comes forth. The rest of the year – commercials are drab and boring and, as statistics are showing, failing to capture the mind of the consumer. The Super Bowl is the last hurrah for commercials on television. The national holiday to celebrate what intrusion based advertising can really be.
My favorite commercial from the ones I watched post-Super Bowl is below. I like it because it speaks to me. While I’m no avatar, I relate to it. It’s one of the first times I can really say that about a commercial as creative as this one.
Enjoy:
Yesterday, as I was sitting at The Cup talking on Twitter, Kit Seeborg (@zsazsa) let me know that I should just come by for PodCamp Boulder. Since the event was almost over (it was around 3pm) – I figured I’d just stop by and say hi (and enjoy myself a nice cup or two of Flying Dog Beer). I am so glad I did.
PodCamp Boulder – organized by Jeremy Tanner (@penguin) and hosted at the skinnycorp/Threadless Offices. Since I missed most of the sessions, I can only really comment on the community. Boulder has a great community. There are so many great people and personalities. While, I haven’t met everyone, the people I have met are all friendly and very intelligent. I learn a lot just from the random conversations that pop up when people of similar interests get together.
At the end of the day, one of the last sessions was “Thriller” – which involved teaching the attendees how to dance like the Zombies from the Thriller video. (Not sure if it was inspired by this Threadless t-shirt or not, but the shirt itself is awesome enough to get it’s own link.) I did not participate – mostly because there’s enough video of me dancing online.
(video quality is suspect: sorry!)
After filming some of the dancing, I instead participated in the final session – including some good bits on micro-celebrity and various talk on consultants, twitter followers, brands and names – all the typical stuff that happens at those things.
After PodCamp, many of the attendees decided to make the trek to Denver and head to “Goremet.” I scored a ride with Cornbread and Jeremy, and we swapped stories of rouge driving and people who talk about their followers. Goremet was great – the same people who were just talking tech together now watching horror movies and eating Kitty Litter Cake. We watched the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Jessica Biel FTW!). After that, I took a ride back to Boulder (Thanks again @stepan) and called it a night.
Overall, not a bad way to spend a Saturday night – especially when it just kind of unfolds organically.
Just go see it. It lives up to the hype.

The fourth Indiana Jone – in my humble opinion – was everything that I thought it would be. While people critique and criticize, It was very similar to all the other movies. The mythos that those movies have attained over the course of 20 some years makes it difficult for people to accept – but I really stand by that.
One thing that movie rekindled inside me was the desire to visit Machu Picchu. Perhaps sometime in the next year I can do this. Here’s to setting some goals and finalizing some plans…
