I came into work yesterday and a bunch of co-workers bombarded me with faux congrats on winning the nobel prize. It turns out, George Smith was the winner of the Nobel Prize in physics. Seeing the peak of my Physics career occurred in 1997 when I created a web site that shared all the answers to the physics homework (and subsequently got in a lot of trouble), I thought it was a pretty funny coincidence – but then again, I have a pretty common name.
So common that when my blog finally started to appear on the first page of Google for searches of George Smith – I was shocked. I never thought I would ever get to that point. While I know the merits of SEO, I really am not much of a practitioner – especially on this little blog. So, when this news broke of a George Smith winning the Nobel prize, all I could think about was “Great, now I won’t be on the front page of Google anymore.”
As of today, when I search for George Smith (’cause everyone loves to Google themselves), No Sense of Time still appears on the front page. In fact, according to my Google analytics account – many people searching for Nobel Prize end up here despite the fact that the winner uses his middle initial – which is “E.” So, to add further confusion, I’m writing this post to see if traffic goes up on my blog. It’s search term link baiting, but hey – it’s kind of funny too.
Congrats goes out to the real winner – a 79 New Jersey native known as George E Smith. Syracuse alum, friend of The Techyness, and all around cool chick Jessica Infante writes the article for the Asbury Park Press. Check it out.
