Over the past few weeks, I’ve somewhat been in hiding. I have decreased my time on the internet as much as I can (after all, it is my job) and I have spent a bit more time trying to be a bit more analog (it helps that I have been reading some pretty good books lately). A lot of this has stemmed from a somewhat hectic schedule, being sick, and other personal issues – but the majority of it is simply based on the need to decompress.
As a “Digital Native,” it’s sometimes good to take time away from the computer, the internet, and “digital friends” to take stock in what is important in your life. From the mundane every day things to the deeper “what makes you happy” issues – it’s important to step back and pause for some introspection. I am not sure what conclusions I have drawn from this planned absence, and I expect to be back to my normal “Digital Native” self shortly (hopefully a bit healthier). Thanks to those that have reached out to me lately. It means a lot.

Amazing post George !! I too am a digital native (btw love the term!!), as it is the nature of my job as well. I love to disconnect though, and think it's a much needed respite. Recently I had a few friends in town and instead of connecting with those around them, one in particular would not stay off of his phone, whether texting, tweeting or uploading the most mundane of pics. Sure I am online a lot, but when in a new town , or surrounded by friends old and new, I like to back away for the phone/pda/computer and just be with cool people and enjoy my surroundings….those are memories that Facebook and Twitter will never make up for…..and I had actually thought about blogging about this….thanks for your inspiration !!
I know what you mean about needing to disconnect. I've been too attached myself lately. But it's all been work, I swear! I'll probably take a break coming up next week… I have to get the house ready for my MIL to visit…
Sorry you're not feeling well! I hope you feel better soon!
