This is the beginning of my new series of video blogs about me getting into shape. I wanted to create a place where I was forced to have some accountability – and what better place than the internet.

My run consisted of 15 minutes of light jogging. There was a minute or two of walking mixed in, but mostly it was a good, light jog. The area I run in is very hilly – I live near Chatauqua Park in Boulder, CO – so the walking tended to occur at the inclines. Overall, I ran roughly a mile during that time. 15 minute mile pace makes for an easy day to start off #FFaF.
When I came home, I did 50 push ups and 50 sit ups. Again, nothing remarkable – just 5 sets of 10 for each. My goal is to take things really slow so I don’t have one of those days where I am incredibly sore. The goal for the first month of #FFaF is to develop the ROUTINE. Creating the routine in my hectic, yet mostly scheduled, life is crucial to getting into the shape I desire.
After all of this, I feel fine. I actually am coughing a bit – my lungs are out of shape. My feet KILL post run – which has been a large problem for me since around the age of 22/23. This often hinders my work outs, but I’m hopefully not going to let it sidetrack me now. I do need new shoes – although that won’t solve the problem. I was fit tested for a pair and that didn’t resolve everything. I have the number of a specialist who will look at my feet at some point.
The purpose of this is really to motivate me to work out. I know I’m not FAT, but I definitely could stand to lose some weight. I am looking for a good program to use to help keep track of workouts and calorie intakes. I would like one with a mobile interface or an iPhone application. If you have any suggestions – let me know in the comments.

My feet always have bothered me, they are incredibly flat footed and very wide so I have problems with them whatever I do. My solution to the running problem (which back when I ran 6:30 minute miles resulted in horrible stress fractures) is not to run. There is plenty of other things you can do, bike, hike (trail running is easier on feet but harder on legs), swim, etc. No need to destroy your legs just so you can run.
It'd be cool if you did my biggest loser type weight ins, or at least throw up your current weight in there. You can use gymnee to track it, great app.
George! I'm running a race (a short one) soon after I get back from hanging out with you guys, so I'm planning on doing some running while I'm there. Want a running buddy?
I used to be an elite runner in HS. But I do have flat feet. I think that in combination with the extra weight is the problem.
I used Gyminee but it was such a pain to update. I need something I can update with an iPhone app or something easy – so I can do it while I'm eating or I forget.
And yes – I plan on doing some weigh-in's. I need a good scale, which my gym has. I just need to GO there first….
Make me run. Drag me out! Please!
Hey George, go for it! Maybe your motivation to run every day and do your push & sit ups can get me to do it too. But don't you have to run at least 20 min before your body starts building up the chemicals needed to burn fat during the rest of your work out?
