
Jordan Hasay didn’t make the Olympic team. Not that I can criticize, when I was sixteen years old I had no delusions about making the Olympic team. The Steve Prefontaine poster in my room notwithstanding, I knew that ultimately I would never have the work ethic to take what limited skills in running I had to any elite level. Hopefully it won’t be her only shot at it. Four years from now, she’ll still be an amateur college student. Will she still be at this elite level? Who knows – injuries, puberty, distractions – there are so many things that can derail an athlete. Still – this is my favorite part of the Olympics (or in this case Pre-olympics). Here is a young girl that went up against women – professionals. She held her own. It’s awe inspiring. Hopefully, she’ll be back…
